Remarkable 1,200 acre cultural complex in San Diego

Made up of nearly 1,200 acres, Balboa Park is a remarkable cultural complex that includes 17 museums, renowned performing arts venues, beautiful gardens and the San Diego Zoo. Located 14 miles from the Hyatt Regency La Jolla, the Park is the ideal place to spend time with family or just a relaxing getaway alone to learn more about San Diego.


Visiting the Park  

The Balboa Park grounds are open 24 hours a day and the Visitors Center is open 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily. Parking is free and the lots offer easy access to the Park via the free tram. The One-Day Explorer entry fee to the park is $45 for Adults and $26 for children ages 3-12. The fee includes entry to five park museums.



There are a number of gardens throughout Balboa Park that represent different horticultural styles and environments. The most popular gardens include the Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden, Palm Canyon, Desert Garden and Japanese Friendship Garden.



With 17 museums to tour, Balboa Park is one of the richest concentrated cultural areas west of the Mississippi. From the Museum of Man and the Museum of Art to the Museum of Photographic Arts, park goers are sure to find something of interest.


Performing Arts  

Balboa Park is home to several renowned Performing Arts locations that draw large crowds all through the year. These locations include the Starlight Bowl, the Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theatre, the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, and the Old Globe Theatre – winner of the 1984 Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre.
